ISSUES FACING AMERICA TODAY
ECONOMY
The economic proposals of the Elephant Party support individual success and collective prosperity. In order to cultivate a sustainable economy for all Americans, a flat income tax must be enforced for all working Americans. This ensures that each citizen pays their true fair share. To address the alarming national debt, the Elephant Party calls for the reduction in the rate of growth for federal welfare programs (Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid). The Elephant Party also understands that raising the minimum wage would damage the job market, leading to increased poverty and decreased domestic business; therefore, the Party takes the logical stance of maintaining the current minimum wage.
ENVIRONMENT
The climate crisis is a real issue that must be addressed with sound approaches. The most effective solution lies in the ingenuity of the American private sector. The Elephant Party understands that a strong economy, not a forceful bureaucracy, can yield the technological advances necessary to mitigate climate change. The Elephant Party supports the Union of Concerned Scientists!
EDUCATION
Education has always been central to the progress and preeminence of America. This does not imply that education in the United States should be centralized. The Elephant Party supports vast control of education systems by state and local governments. In addition, families should have access to a variety of programs, such as home-schooling, career and technical education, private or parochial schools, magnet schools, charter schools, online learning, early-college high schools, as well as the financing mechanisms that make
PERSONAL FREEDOM
It is the obligation of the government to provide protection and enforce accountability for the American people. The Elephant Party continuously aims to honor this great responsibility while respecting the fact that America’s story has been built on the individual courage and freedom of its citizens. Profiling and surveillance should be limited to cases of evidence-based suspicion, so as not to deteriorate the rights guaranteed to each law-abiding citizen. The Elephant Party also supports the restriction of solely automatic weapons and increased education on gun safety and periodic mental aptitude screening for gun licenses. Also, the Elephant Party will combat all policies and proposals that support affirmative action, a system of institutionalized racism in employment and postsecondary education.
The Elephant Party upholds the values of the United States Constitution and uses principled judgement to address the evolving national and global landscapes of the 21st century.
DOMESTIC POLICY
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” — Amendment X, United States Constitution
FOREIGN POLICY
IMMIGRATION
It is a central goal of the Elephant Party to protecting America’s sovereignty; therefore, the Party opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants and aims to establish stronger border security. The Elephant Party also supports immigration reform that properly and indiscriminately screens those who legally enter the United States; moreover, education on American citizenship shall be a requirement for those who wish to establish themselves in America, which will ensure an effective citizenry.
The firm conviction of the Elephant Party is that the role of the federal government be restricted to its responsibilities as defined in the United States Constitution, allowing states and other localized governing bodies to develop in their own laboratory of democracy, as the Founding Fathers intended. The Elephant Party understands that true social progress begins with individuals.
The Elephant Party believes that United States should maintain leadership around the world to combat and deter terrorism.
THE WAR ON TERROR
The Elephant Party maintains a principled view of world affairs, employing swift and forceful military action when such actions are in the national interest, chiefly to prevent terrorism abroad.
“As for the enemies of freedom, those who are potential adversaries, they will be reminded that peace is the highest aspiration of the American people. We will negotiate for it, sacrifice for it; we will not surrender for it, now or ever.” — Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States
